- 27 - ELECTRONIC INFORMATION EXCHANGE OF SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An information exchange system and method is provided whereby a user can receive and store selected information, such as stock prices and trends, and display such information on a domestic television set 40. A control unit 38 is provided which selects and stores the information and the control unit 38 can be programmed by means of a remote control unit 44 which can also control the normal operation of the television set 40. Manipulation of the displayed data on the television screen is achieved by means of the remote control unit 44. A user can react to the displayed information by using the remote control unit 44 to act upon the control unit 38 to send a message, such as to purchase or sell stock, through a bidirectional communications channel 28, such as a telephone line.
