A cannula (14) comprises a proximal end (20), a distal end (22), and a lumen (24) extending between the proximal and distal ends, wherein at least a portion of the cannula body (18) is non-circular in cross section, preferably oval. A cannula wherein a portion of the cannula body is oval in cross section is ideally suited in surgical procedures wherein the cannula extends through a percutaneous aperture. The oval portion of the cannula body utilizes the space of the percutaneous aperture efficiently, thereby minimizing the necessary size of the access aperture.

Une canule (14) comprend une extrémité proximale (20), une extrémité (22) distale et une lumière (24) qui s'étend entre les extrémités distale et proximale, au moins une partie du corps (18) de la canule étant non circulaire en coupe transversale et étant de préférence ovale. Une canule dont une partie du corps est ovale en coupe transversale est idéalement adaptée aux interventions chirurgicales dans lesquelles la canule s'étend à travers une ouverture percutanée. La partie ovale du corps de la canule utilise efficacement l'espace de l'ouverture percutanée et réduit par conséquent au minimum la taille nécessaire de l'ouverture d'accès.
