An electromagnetic clutch assembly (10) has a housing (12, 14) and a shaft (16) rotatably supported by the housing. At least one end of the shaft extends out of the housing. A clutch plate (22) is mounted on the shaft (16) for rotation therewith. An armature plate (20) is mounted in the housing (12, 14). A gear (24) is rotatable and slidably mounted on the shaft (26). A spring assembly (88, 89) extends between the clutch plate (22) and the gear (24) to bias the gear (24) out of engagement with the clutch plate (22). A coil assembly (18) is mounted on the shaft (16) for sliding movement therealong. The coil assembly (18) engages the gear (24). Energizing the coil assembly moves the coil assembly (18) into engagement with the armature plate (20) and responsively effects movement of the gear (24) into engagement with the clutch plate (22), coupling the gear (24) and the clutch plate (22). De-energizing the coil assembly (18) responsively enables the spring assembly (88, 89) to effect movement of the gear (24) out of engagement with the clutch plate (22), de-coupling the gear (24) and the clutch plate (22).

L'invention porte sur un embrayage électromagnétique (10) présentant un carter (12, 14) et un arbre (16) tournant dans le carter et dont l'une au moins des extrémités sort du carter. Le plateau d'embrayage (22), solidaire de l'arbre (16), tourne avec lui. Une plaque de l'armature (20) est montée dans le carter (12, 14). Une couronne dentée (24) est montée tournante et coulissante sur l'arbre (26). Un système de ressorts (88, 89) s'étendant entre le plateau d'embrayage (22) et la couronne (24) empêche le contact entre la couronne (24) et le plateau d'embrayage (22). Un système de bobines (18) monté sur l'arbre (16) et pouvant s'y déplacer axialement est en contact avec la couronne (24). Lorsque les bobines (18) sont mises sous tension, elles viennent au contact du plateau de l'armature (20), ce qui a pour effet de mettre la couronne (24) en contact avec le plateau d'embrayage (22) et de solidariser ces derniers. Lorsque les bobines (18) ne sont plus sous tension, le système de ressorts (88, 89) empêche le contact entre la couronne (24) et le plateau d'embrayage (22), ce qui a pour effet de les désolidariser.
