This invention relates to a set of machines for automated transportation of passengers and cargo along special guideways (11), and for non-automated transportation on conventional streets and roads, using the same vehicles (16) for both without transfer of the passengers and cargo. The guideway (11) includes a pair of rails (15) enclosed by a shroud (25), and a slot extends through an inner wall of each of the shrouds (25). The vehicle wheels (51) are carried within the shroud (25) on wheel contacting surfaces, with ends of the axles extending through the slots. An electrical bus bar (35) is located with the shroud (25) for providing power to the vehicle (16).
