Method for generating seismic intersection waves in an underground formation, wherein poles that are previously driven into the formation for other purposes or poles that are driven down for this purpose, said poles being used as a transfer medium for the intersection waves into the formation. The poles are put into transversal vibration by means of an oscillating mass, the oscillations being suitable for forming mainly horizontal polarized waves. In order to achieve a best possible impression of the formation, transversal waves may be generated in a first direction in a first period of time, and a second direction, different from the first direction, in a second period of time. Alternatively, the oscillating mass can be arranged to swing parallel to the pole in order to be able to generate pressure waves. The poles can be equipped with a "skirt", and/or with radially extending flanges in order to secure the best possible attachment in loose formations. If desired, it is also possible to introduce an artificial under pressure in the pole, in order to safeguard against over pressure around the pole when it is vibrating.
On décrit un procédé de production d'ondes d'intersection sismiques dans une formation souterraine, dans lequel on utilise des poteaux, préalablement enfoncés dans la formation à des fins diverses ou que l'on a enfoncés aux fins de réalisation du procédé, en tant que milieu de transfert d'ondes d'intersection dans la formation. On a fait vibrer transversalement ces poteaux au moyen d'une masse oscillante, les oscillations étant conçues pour former des ondes polarisées principalement horizontales. Afin de réaliser la meilleure impression possible de la formation, on peut produire des ondes transversales dans une première direction au cours d'une première période, et dans une seconde direction, différente de la première, au cours d'une seconde période. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, on peut disposer la masse oscillante de manière à ce que celle-ci se balance parallèlement au poteau, afin de pouvoir produire des ondes de pression. On peut doter les poteaux d'une "jupe" et/ou de rebords s'étendant radialement, de manière à exécuter la meilleure fixation possible dans des formations meubles. Le cas échéant, on peut également introduire une sous pression artificielle dans le poteau, de manière à sauvegarder celui-ci contre toute pression s'exerçant autour de lui lorsqu'il vibre.
