An outboard motor includes an alternator belt-driven by an engine and equipped with a plurality of fans for taking outside air into the interior of the alternator, and a belt cover which covers an endless belt used for driving the alternator and at least an upper portion of the alternator. The alternator is continuously driven while the engine is running. The cooling fans provided on the alternator rotate in unison with a rotor of the alternator. The outside air taken into an engine room through fresh air intake holes provided in an engine cover is drawn by the cooling fans into the interior of the belt cover through a multiplicity of air passage holes formed in the belt cover, so that the alternator is cooled by the outside air drawn into the belt cover.
