The present invention relates to compositions and methods for preserving and extracting nucleic acids from saliva. The compositions include a chelating agent, a denaturing agent, buffers to maintain the pH of the composition within ranges desirable for DNA and/or RNA. The compositions may also include a reducing agent and/or antimicrobial agent. The invention extends to methods of using the compositions of the invention to preserve and isolate nucleic acids from saliva as well as to containers for the compositions of the invention.

L'invention porte sur des compositions et des procédés permettant de conserver et d'extraire des acides nucléiques de la salive. Ces compositions contiennent un chélateur, un agent de dénaturation, des tampons afin de maintenir le pH de la composition dans limites souhaitables pour l'ADN et/ou ARN. Ces compositions contiennent également un réducteur et/ou un agent antimicrobien. Cette invention porte aussi sur des procédés d'utilisation des compositions susmentionnées afin de conserver et d'isoler des acides nucléiques de la salive ainsi que sur des contenants destinés auxdites compositions.
