The present invention relates to the isolation of DNA regulatory regions of the malate synthase 1 gene (MLS1) from the yeast, Pichia pastoris. The present invention further relates to the expression of heterologous proteins which have been introduced into a P. pastoris host cell and can be expressed under the regulation of the MLS1 5' regulatory promoter and MLS1 3'regulatory terminator regions. The MLS1 promoter is repressed in media containing glucose and derepressed under glucose starvation conditions or when acetate is present.

L'invention se rapporte à l'isolation des régions de régulation de l'ADN du gène de la malate synthase 1 (<I>MLS1</I>) dans la levure Pichia pastoris. Cette invention concerne également l'expression de protéines hétérologues qui ont été introduites dans une cellule hôte de P. pastoris et qui peuvent être exprimées si la région de régulation 5' de <I>MLS1</I> de type promoteur et la région de régulation 3' de <I>MLS1</I> de type terminateur sont régulées. Le promoteur de <I>MLS1</I> est réprimé dans des substances contenant du glucose, et est déréprimé dans des conditions de manque de glucose ou en présence d'acétate.
