An apparatus for controllably varying specificity of a FAIMS-based ion separation includes a FAIMS analyzer region that is defined between a first electrode surface and a second electrode surface. The FAIMS analyzer region in communication with an ionization source for providing a flow of ions including a known ion, and with an ion outlet for extracting ions including the known ion from the FAIMS analyzer region. The first and second electrode surfaces are for having an asymmetric waveform voltage applied thereacross so as to define an average ion flow path for the known ion traversing therebetween. The apparatus further includes an actuator for controllably varying the length of the average ion flow path.
L'invention concerne un appareil permettant de modifier par réglage la spécificité d'une séparation d'ions par spectrométrie FAIMS, comprenant une zone d'analyse FAIMS définie entre la surface d'une première électrode et la surface d'une seconde électrode. La zone d'analyse FAIMS est en communication avec une source d'ionisation afin de générer un flux d'ions contenant un ion connu, et avec une sortie d'ions permettant d'extraire les ions contenant l'ion connu de la zone d'analyse FAIMS. Les surfaces de la première et de la seconde électrode sont destinées à recevoir une tension de forme d'onde asymétrique de façon à définir un écoulement ionique moyen pour l'ion connu. L'appareil comprend également un actionneur permettant de modifier par réglage la longueur de l'écoulement ionique moyen.
