L'invention concerne un procédé d'alcoolyse du tétrachlorure de carbone qui consiste à envoyer simulta- nément, d'une part du tétrachlorure de carbone, d'autre part un alcool ROH sur une composition catalytique, caractérisé en ce que ladite composition catalytique comprend une solution aqueuse d'un halogénure métallique. Ce procédé présente l'avantage de transformer quasi totalement le tétrachlorure de carbone en RCl en évitant la formation gênante de sous produits qui nécessiteraient des séparations coûteuses.
