Methods and apparatus for discriminating matter in a chamber having an inlet port and an outlet port utilizing dielectrophoresis and field flow fractionation. A carrier medium is introduced into the inlet port and is directed from the inlet port to the outlet port according to a velocity profile. A programmed voltage signal is applied to an electrode element coupled to the chamber to form a dielectrophoretic force on the matter. The dielectrophoretic force is balanced with a gravitational force to displace the matter to positions within said velocity profile in the carrier medium to discriminate the matter. A chamber having a top and bottom outlet port may be utilized to withdraw a first portion of a carrier medium from the top outlet port at a first, controllable fluid flow rate and to withdraw a second portion of the carrier medium from the bottom outlet port at a second, controllable fluid flow rate.
L'invention concerne des procédés et des dispositifs permettant la discrimination de matière dans une chambre à orifice d'admission et orifice d'évacuation, par diélectrophorèse et fractionnement en continu. Un support vecteur est introduit dans l'orifice d'admission et dirigé depuis cet orifice d'admission vers l'orifice d'évacuation selon un profil de vitesse. Un signal de tension programmé est appliqué à une électrode couplée à la chambre, de manière à appliquer une force diélectrophorétique à la matière. Cette force est équilibrée au moyen d'une force de gravitation, ce qui permet de déplacer la matière pour lui donner des positions conformes au profil de vitesse sur le support vecteur, aux fins de discrimination de la matière. On peut utiliser une chambre à orifices d'évacuation supérieur et inférieur, afin d'extraire une première partie de support vecteur au niveau de l'orifice d'évacuation supérieur, selon un premier débit de liquide contrôlable, et afin d'extraire une seconde partie de support vecteur au niveau de l'orifice d'évacuation inférieur, selon un second débit de liquide contrôlable.
