ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a retractable blade knife comprising a pair of elongated mating handle halves separable along a plane generally extending longitudinally of the knife and defining a blade receiving opening therebetween at one end thereof, guide rails on said handle halves for guiding a blade for reciprocable movement toward and away from the blade receiving opening between a sheathed and an unsheathed position, a cursor connected to the blade for manually moving the same between the sheathed and unsheathed positions, a fast- ener interconnecting said handle halves at the other end thereof for relative pivotal and sliding movement, said handles halves having interengageable shoulders at said one end and said fastener further interconnecting said other end of the handle halves to shift the same longitudinally relative to each other to position said shoulders in an interengaging relationship to latch the handle halves together so that the blade may be longitudinally shifted between its sheathed and unsheathed positions by the cursor and in a nonengaging relationship and to secure the handle halves with said shoulders in each of said positions.
