Hydrogen sulfide evolution from asphalt may be reduced or eliminated using an additive to act as a scavenger. Metal borate complexes when used as an additive in asphalt production, are an effective component in preventing or mitigating the evolution of hydrogen sulfide from asphalt. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.
