A nonwoven composite having improved wet resiliency and insulative properties includes a thermoplastic nonwoven matrix and, dispersed within the matrix, fibers preferably including fiberized feathers. When the composite is used as an absorbent structure, the fibers may include a mixture ofpulp fibers and fiberized feathers, preferably chicken feathers. When the composite is used as an insulative material, the fibers may comprise fiberized chicken feathers.
