A fitting for operating a pivotable window leaf is provided with a worm drive (19, 9), adapted to be operated by means of a crank, in a drive casing (1) for pivoting a lever arm (11) connected directly or indirectly to the leaf. For the purpose of use at choice for windows mounted on the right-hand side or on the left-hand side, the lever arm (11) can be inserted into the opened drive casing in two positions at an angle of 180° to one another and coupled to the wheel (9) of the worm drive. The free end of the lever arm (11) is preferably connected by means of a connecting link (65) to the leaf (41), the latter being mounted on the frame by two pairs of mounting links (51, 53) of unequal lengths for pivoting about a virtual pivoting axis.
