Primordial germ cells isolated from human embryonic tissue, such as from the gonadal ridges of human embryo, are disclosed. The primordial germ cells are cultured resulting in cells that resemble embryonic stem cells or embryonic germ cells in morphology and pluripotency. The cells are maintained several months in culture and can be genetically manipulated using transgenic technology to insert heterologous genetic material.
L'invention concerne des cellules germinales primordiales isolées à partir de tissus embryonnaires humains, tels qu'à partir des crêtes gonadiques d'embryon humain. Les cellules germinales primordiales sont mises en culture dont sont issues des cellules ressemblant à des cellules souches embryonnaires ou des cellules germinales embryonnaires de par leurs morphologies et leurs caractères pluripotants. Les cellules sont conservées plusieurs mois en culture et peuvent être manipulées génétiquement au moyen d'une technologie transgénique pour insérer du matériel génétique hétérologue.
