An apparatus for providing link layer security in a Physical Layer Transceiver (PHY) (Fig. 3, 305) is disclosed. In one embodiment, the apparatus may comprise analog circuitry (Fig. 3, 330) configured to interface with a data transmission medium, digital circuitry (Fig. 3, 320) configured to interface with a Media Access Controller (MAC) (Fig. 3, 310); and a crypto engine (Fig. 3, 340) coupled to the digital circuitry. Single interface and multiple interface schemes are provided to control both PHY and crypto functions. Embodiments are disclosed where the PHY controls the crypto device, and where the crypto device controls the PHY.
L'invention concerne un appareil assurant la sécurité d'une couche de liaison dans un émetteur récepteur à couche physique. Dans un mode de réalisation, l'appareil peut comporter un ensemble de circuits analogiques configuré pour servir d'interface à un support de transmission de données, un ensemble de circuits numériques configuré de manière à servir d'interface à un contrôleur d'accès média; et un moteur crypto couplé à l'ensemble de circuits numériques. Des schémas d'interface unique ou de multiples interfaces permettent de commander à la fois les fonctions de l'émetteur récepteur à couche physique et crypto. Des modes de réalisation présentent un émetteur récepteur à couche physique commandant le dispositif crypto et un dispositif crypto commandant l'émetteur récepteur à couche physique.
