The present invention encompasses methods for reducing or inhibiting growth factor in cancer cells and tissues. More particularly immunogenic growth factor-containing compositions are administered to a human or animal with a cancer or tumor. The immunogenic compositions elicit the production of antibodies specific for growth factor which reduce the level or circulating growth factor, thus reducing or eliminating the proliferation of cancer. The present invention encompasses growth factor-containing liposomes and vesicles having portions of growth factor externally presented on their surfaces. The present invention alsoincludes antibodies specific for growth factor. Thus, according to the present invention, growth factor levels are reduced either by active immunization of an individual using immunogenic growth factor-containing compositions or by passiveimmunization via administering to the individual an antibody or a group of antibodies specific for growth factor.
L'invention concerne des procédés servant à limiter ou à inhiber le facteur de croissance dans des cellules et des tissus cancéreux. Plus particulièrement, on administre à un sujet humain ou animal atteint d'un cancer ou d'une tumeur des compositions immunogènes contenant le facteur de croissance. Les compositions immunogènes stimulent la production d'anticorps spécifiques contre le facteur de croissance, ce qui diminue le niveau du facteur de croissance en circulation et, de ce fait, limite ou élimine la prolifération du cancer. L'invention concerne des liposomes contenant le facteur de croissance et des vésicules possédant des parties du facteur de croissance sur leurs surfaces extérieures. L'invention concerne également des anticorps spécifiques contre le facteur de croissance. L'invention permet, de ce fait, de limiter les niveaux de facteurs de croissance, soit par immunisation active d'un individu au moyen de compositions immunogènes contenant le facteur de croissance, soit par immunisation passive au moyen de l'administration à l'individu d'un anticorps ou d'un groupe d'anticorps spécifiques contre le facteur de croissance.
