The present invention relates to the field of antibiotics, and more specifically to the isolation of nucleic acid molecules that code for the biosynthetic pathway of the glycopeptide antibiotic A40926. Disclosed are the functions of the gene products involved in A40926 production. The present invention provides biosynthetic genes that code for A40926 production, the encoded polypeptides, the recombinant vectors comprising the nucleic acid sequences that encode said polypeptides, the host cells transformed with said vectors and methods for producing glycopeptide antibiotics using said transformed host cells, including methods for producing A40926, a precursor thereof, a derivative thereof or a modified glycopeptide different from A 40926 or a precursor thereof.
La présente invention concerne, dans le domaine des antibiotiques, l'isolation de molécules d'acides nucléiques qui codent pour le chemin de biosynthèse de l'antibiotique glycopeptide A40926. L'invention concerne plus particulièrement des fonctions de produits géniques impliqués dans la production du A40926. En l'occurrence, l'invention concerne de nouveaux gènes de biosynthèse qui codent pour la production du A40926, les polypeptides codés, les vecteurs de recombinaison comprenant les séquences d'acides nucléiques qui codent ces polypeptides, les cellules hôtes transformées au moyen de ces vecteurs, et des procédés utilisant ces cellules hôtes transformées pour la production d'antibiotiques glycopeptides y compris du A40926, de l'un de ses précurseurs, de l'un de ces dérivés ou d'un glycopeptide modifié différent tant du A40926 que de l'un de ses précurseurs.
