A suture pledget assembly (30) is disclosed that includes a block (20) with at least one slit (22,23) and a pledget (10) in an abutting relationship to the block (20). A suture (15) has first and second end portions that are retained by the first and second slits (22,23), respectively. The first and second end portions generally extend beyond a face of the block (20) and are substantially parallel to each other. A suture pledget package (70) for retaining a suture (15) is disclosed. The suture pledget package (70) includes a front panel (74) and a backing panel (72) where the backing panel forms a plurality of tracks (76). Each track (76) is configured and dimensioned to receive at least one suture pledget assembly (30).
