A method of making a blow-molded container (1) from a strain- hardenable polymer, the container (1) having deep recesses (20A, 20B) for secure "post-mold" attachment of a handle (40). The container is formed in a modified blow mold (60) having retractable blades (70). The blades (70) are partially extended for blow molding partial recesses, and then further extended for mechanically forming the deep handle recesses. The mechanical forming operation overcomes the stretch limits imposed by strain-hardening of the plastic material during blow molding, and the "post-mold" attachment of the handle (40) provides a reduced cycle time and lower level of defects compared to the known "in-mold" handle forming operations.
Procédé de fabrication d'un récipient soufflé (1) à l'aide d'un polymère susceptible de durcir par déformation, le récipient (1) étant pourvu d'empreintes profondes (20A, 20B) assurant la fixation d'une poignée (40) après moulage. Le récipient est formé à l'intérieur d'un moule de soufflage modifié (60) possédant des lames rétractables (70). Les lames (70) sont sorties partiellement afin de souffler des empreintes partielles, puis sorties complètement pour former mécaniquement les empreintes profondes des poignées. L'opération de formage mécanique permet d'aller au-delà des limites d'allongement imposées par le durcissement par déformation du matériau plastique lors du soufflage. De plus, la fixation de la poignée (40) après moulage permet d'obtenir une durée de cycle réduite, ainsi qu'un niveau de défauts inférieur à ce que l'on obtient avec les opérations de formage des poignées "dans le moule" connues.
