Disclosed are novel polyether compounds obtained by the reaction of polymerisation of 3,4-epoxy-1-butene in the presence of tetrahydrofuran, an acidic catalyst and a nucleophilic initiator compound. The polyether compounds comprise m units of residue (1), n units of residue (2), and p units of residue (3) wherein (i) residues (1), (2) and (3) have the structures (1), (2): -O-CH2-CH=CH-CH2-, and (3): -O-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-, (ii) the total value of m+n+p is 5 to 70; (iii) the value of n/(m+n+p) is in the range of 0.2 to 0.4, i.e., residue (2) constitutes from 20 to 40 mole percent of the total moles of residues (1), (2) and (3); and (iv) at least 98 percent of the terminal groups have the structure (4) or (5): HO-CH2-CH=CH-CH2-.

L'invention concerne de nouveaux composés de polyéther obtenus par la réaction ou la polymérisation du 3,4-époxy-1-butène en présence du tétrahydrofurane, un catalyseur acide et un composé amorceur nucléophile. Les composés de polyéther comprennent m unités de reste (1), n unités de reste (2), et p unités de reste (3) dans lesquels (i) les restes (1), (2) et (3) ont les structures suivantes (1), (2): -O-CH¿2?-CH=CH-CH¿2?-, (3):-O-CH¿2?-CH¿2?-CH¿2?-CH¿2?-, (ii) la valeur totale de m + n + p est de 5 à 70; (iii) la valeur de n/(m + n + p) est de l'ordre de 0,2 à 0,4, c'est-à-dire que le reste (2) représente de 20 à 40 % en moles des molécules-grammes totaux des restes (1), (2) et (3); et (iv) au moins 95 % des groupes terminaux ont la structure suivante: (4) ou (5): HO-CH¿2?-CH=CH-CH¿2?-.
