Methods are provided for imparting desirable pohenotypic traits to transgenic plants, among them being increased tolerance to external stresses such as drought, freezing temperatures, high salt conditions, and the like. In addition, the present invention is directed toward methods for increasing the yield of seeds from plants by using the pollen from a transgenic plant transformed to overexpress a vacuolar proton-pumping pyrophosphatase to fertilize plants, and to the pollen of transgenic plants itself.

L'invention concerne des procédés destinés à conférer des traits phénotypiques voulus à des plantes transgéniques, et présentant une résistance à des contraintes externes, telles que la sécheresse, des temps de gel, des grandes quantités de sel, et analogue. En outre, cette invention concerne des procédés destinés à augmenter le rendement des graines à partir de plantes en utilisant le pollen d'une plante transgénique transformée afin de surexprimer une pyrophosphatase pompe à protons vacuolaire pour fertiliser les plantes, ainsi que le pollen des plantes transgéniques lui-même.
