A suture guide, and fastener (100) includes a suture retaining device (102) which orients, secures one or more suture strands (104) therein, receives energy applied to the strands (104) to bond them within the suture retaining device (102). The fastener becomes integral with the bonded sutures, and may be made of a material similar to the suture material which melts upon the application of energy thereto. Alternatively, the fastener (100) may be made of a different material which remains intact upon application of bonding energy to the sutures. When ultrasonic energy is applied, the fastener (100) may function as a stationary ultrasonic weld anvil. Other types of energy, such as laser, thermal or chemical, may be applied to the suture strands (104) to effect bonding.
Un guide et une attache de suture comprennent un dispositif de retenue de suture lequel oriente et fixe un ou plusieurs fils de suture et reçoit une énergie appliquée sur les fils afin de les lier ensemble à l'intérieur du dispositif de retenue de suture. L'attache devient solidaire des sutures liées et peut être constituée d'un matériau similaire à celui de la suture, lequel fond lorsqu'une énergie lui est appliquée. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, l'attache peut être constituée d'un matériau différent demeurant intact lorsqu'on applique une énergie de liaison aux sutures. Lorsqu'une énergie à ultrasons est appliquée, l'attache peut fonctionner à la manière d'une enclume fixe de soudage par ultrasons. D'autres types d'énergie, telle qu'une énergie laser, thermique ou chimique, peuvent être appliqués aux fils de suture afin d'obtenir une liaison.
