A method of preparing a chicory extract enriched with sesquiterpene lactones is provided. The method includes performing an initial extraction chicory in a polar solvent, such as methanol or ethanol, at ambient temperature to form an alcoholic extract. The alcoholic extract is subsequently defatted with a non- polar solvent, preferably hexane or n-heptane. A second extraction of the defatted alcoholic extract is performed with a solvent which is more polar than the solvent used in the defatting process and less polar than the solvent used in the initial extraction, for example, it can be chosen from the group consisting of ethyl acetate, n-butanol, isopropanol, n-propanol, dichloromethane, acetonitrile, and mixtures thereof; resulting in a sesquiterpene lactones enriched extract, preferably containing at least 60 % sesquiterpene lactones.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'un extrait de chicorée enrichi en lactones sesquiterpéniques. Le procédé consiste à : effectuer une extraction initiale de la chicorée dans un solvant polaire, tel que le méthanol ou l'éthanol, à température ambiante pour former un extrait alcoolique ; dégraisser ensuite l'extrait alcoolique avec un solvant non polaire, de préférence l'hexane ou le n-heptane ; effectuer une seconde extraction de l'extrait alcoolique dégraissé avec un solvant qui est plus polaire que le solvant utilisé dans le procédé de dégraissage et moins polaire que le solvant utilisé dans l'extraction initiale, par exemple pouvant être choisi dans le groupe constitué de l'acétate d'éthyle, du n-butanol, de l'isopropanol, du n-propanol, du dichlorométhane, de l'acétonitrile et de mélanges de ceux-ci, produisant ainsi un extrait enrichi en lactones sesquiterpéniques, de préférence contenant au moins 60 % de lactones sesquiterpéniques.
