A process for the production of tetrahydrofuran and gammabutyrolactone from maleic, succinic anhydride or fumaric acid esters, by vapour phase hydrogenation in two subsequent stages, the former on a copper based catalyst, the latter on an acid silica rich silica-alumina type catalyst.

Procédé de production de tétrahydrofuranne et de gammabutyrolactone à partir d'esters d'anhydride maléique ou succinique ou de l'acide fumarique, par hydrogénation en phase vapeur lors de deux étapes ultérieures, la première sur un catalyseur à base de cuivre, la seconde sur un catalyseur d'acide de type silice-alumine riche en silice.
