Apparatus and methods for isolating nucleic acids use a loading station (2200, 2500) to load a sample onto a solid support in a container (2424) using a pump or vacuum source, a fluidic station (2420) to remove contaminants using a centrifuge, pump or vacuum source, and a sample collection station (2800) to separate the nucleic acids from the support using a centrifuge, pump or vacuum source.
