A novel gene (designated 162P1E6) and its encoded protein, and variants thereof, are described wherein 162P1E6 exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, and is aberrantly expressed in the cancers listed in Table I. Consequently, 162P1E6 provides a diagnostic, prognostic, prophylactic and/or therapeutic target for cancer. The 162P1E6 gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein, or variants thereof, or a fragment thereof, can be used to elicit a humoral or cellular immune response; antibodies or T cells reactive with 162P1E6 can be used in active or passive immunization.

L'invention se rapporte à un nouveau gène (appelé 162P1E6) et à sa protéine codée ainsi qu'à des variants de celle-ci, le gène 162P1E6 présentant une expression à spécificité tissulaire dans un tissu adulte normal et une expression aberrante dans les cancers répertoriés dans la Table 1. Par conséquent, 162P1E6 constitue une cible diagnostique, pronostique, prophylactique et/ou thérapeutique du cancer. Il est possible d'utiliser le gène 162P1E6 ou son fragment, ou sa protéine codée, ou des variants de celle-ci, ou un fragment de ceux-ci afin de mettre en lumière une réponse immunitaire cellulaire ou humorale. En outre, des anticorps ou des lymphocytes T réagissant avec le gène 162P1E6 peuvent être employés dans le cadre d'une immunisation active ou passive.
