ABSTRACT A governor is used for regulating the angular velocity of a toothed gear wheel which is biased to rotate. An inertial mass is affixed to one end of a spring and the other end of the spring is affixed to a ratchet bar of the governor. The end of the spring affixed to the inertial mass moves from an unloaded position just before a change in direction of oscillation, to a loaded position, and then back to an unloaded position just after the direction of oscillation has changed.
