A protein purified from bovine colostral whey and isolated nucleotide sequences encoding the protein is identified. The isolated bovine protein is termed Bovine Lactation Associated Immunotropic (Bo-LAIT) protein. The human homologue of Bo-LAIT protein, Hu-LAIT protein, is also described. A method of activating B cells, and particularly of activating B cells in a mammal, such as a human, in need of such activation by administering LAIT protein is described. LAIT protein can be incorporated into infant formula. LAIT protein can be administered to an infant, as by feeding to the infant such formula. LAIT protein can be incorporated as part of a vaccination. LAIT protein can be administered to a patient having a T cell immune deficiency, for example, a particular T cell dysfunction in which gp39 (CD40L) is under expressed on or totally absent from the cell surface of patient T cells. Preparation of medicaments including LAIT protein for activating B cells in a mammal in need of such activation is described. Natural or recombinant LAIT protein can be used.
On a identifié une nouvelle protéine, purifiée à partir du lactosérum colostral, ainsi que des séquences nucléotidiques isolées, codant cette protéine. On a dénommé cette protéine bovine isolée, protéine immunotrope bovine associée à la lactation (Bo-LAIT). On décrit également l'homologue humain de cette protéine Bo-LAIT, la protéine Hu-LAIT. On décrit encore un procédé d'activation de lymphocytes B et notamment d'activation de lymphocytes B chez un mammifère, tel qu'un homme nécessitant une telle activation, ce procédé consistant à administrer cette protéine LAIT. On peut incorporer cette protéine LAIT dans une formule pour nourrissons et l'administrer à un nourrisson, par apport d'une telle formule dans l'alimentation de celui-ci. On peut également incorporer cette protéine LAIT dans un vaccin et l'administrer à un patient présentant un déficit immunitaire en lymphocytes T, par exemple un dérèglement particulier des lymphocytes T dans lequel gr39 (CD40L) est sous-exprimé sur la surface cellulaire des lymphocytes T de ce patient, ou est totalement absent de cette surface. L'invention concerne enfin la préparation de médicaments contenant cette protéine LAIT, et destinés à activer des lymphocytes B chez un mammifère nécessitant une telle activation. On peut utiliser une protéine LAIT naturelle ou recombinée.
