A strain sensor comprises an optical waveguide (6) having a plurality of reflecting structures (Bragg gratings) along its length. Each structure reflects light at a different characteristic wavelength (.lambda.1 to .lambda.n+1) which changes in dependence on a change of physical length of at least part of the reflecting structure. The reflectivity of reflecting structures which reflect at characteristic wavelengths which are adjacent to each other (.lambda.1 and .lambda.2 or .lambda.n and .lambda.n+1) are configured to be different such that the intensity of light reflected from adjacent structures can be used to discriminate between them.

L'invention concerne un détecteur extensométrique comprenant un guide d'onde (6) optique comportant, sur sa longueur, une pluralité de structures réfléchissantes (réseau de Bragg). Chaque structure réfléchit la lumière à une longueur d'onde caractéristique différente (.lambda.¿1? à .lambda.¿n+1?) qui est fonction de la longueur physique d'une partie au moins de la structure réfléchissante. Les structures réfléchissantes qui réfléchissent à des longueurs d'onde adjacentes (.lambda.¿1? et .lambda.¿2? ou .lambda.¿n? et .lambda.¿n+1?) sont configurées pour avoir une réflectivité différente de manière que l'intensité de la lumière réfléchie par des structures adjacentes puisse permettre de les distinguer.
