A plastic pail lid with a vent plug. The pail lid has a recessed section of predetermined cross-section, with said lid within said recessed section having a membrane of reduced thickness therein. The membrane is openable to form a vent through said plastic pail lid. A plug is provided for said vent, with a cross-section substantially conforming to said predetermined cross-section of said recessed section.
