An energy absorbing interior automotive trim part (36) has a shell (42) made from polypropylene sections (62, 68 and 69) divided via partitions (58 and 72) extending from the outer wall (44) of shell (42) and touching the passenger compartment facing wall (46). The shell (42) is blow molded with carpet (74), vinyls and other fabric materials (76) integrally molded to adhere directly to wall (46). After molding, interior section or partial section (62) is filled with a structurally engineered energy absorbing foam (64) to provide an energy absorbing structure which will compress a predetermined distance while absorbing the compressive force applied.
L'invention concerne un élément de finition interne (36) pour une voiture, capable d'absorber de l'énergie, constitué d'une coque (42) faite avec des sections en polypropylène (62, 68 et 69) séparées par des parois (58 et 72) s'étendant depuis la paroi externe (44) de la coque (42) jusqu'à sa paroi interne (46), c'est-à-dire celle située du côté de l'habitacle du véhicule. La coque (42) est obtenue par extrusion-soufflage avec un tapis (74), un plastique vinylique ou un tissu (76) venant adhérer directement à la paroi (46). Après le moulage, la section interne ou partielle (62) est remplie d'une mousse (64) spécialement conçue pour absorber les chocs, ce qui permet d'avoir une structure absorbant l'énergie qui va se comprimer sur une distance prédéterminée en absorbant la force de compression appliquée.
