Image Image Image A network termination unit (20) for connection to a telephone line (12,14) at a predetermined demarcation point thereof for sequentially simulating a plurality of fault conditions to allow a diagnostic routine to be performed on the telephone line at a remote location from the demarcation point. The network termination unit (20) comprises a plurality of semiconductor switches (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 43) electrically connected to conductors of the telephone line to establish a network of electrical paths capable of altering the electrical condition of the telephone line when caused to assume a state of conduction. A logic module (32) causes the switches to assume either a closed or an open condition in accordance with a predetermined sequence established by a hard-wired program.

Appareil terminal (20) sur réseau, destiné à être raccordé à une ligne téléphonique (12, 14) en un point de démarcation prédéterminé de celle-ci, afin de simuler de manière séquentielle une pluralité d'états de dérangement, et de permettre l'exécution sur la ligne téléphonique d'un sous-programme de diagnostic en un point éloigné du point de démarcation. L'appareil terminal (20) sur réseau comporte une pluralité d'interrupteurs à semi-conducteurs (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 43) raccordés par voie électrique à des conducteurs de la ligne téléphonique afin d'établir un réseau de tracés électriques aptes à modifier l'état électrique de la ligne téléphonique lorsqu'ils deviennent conducteurs. Un module logique (52) met les interrupteurs en position d'ouverture ou en position de fermeture en fonction d'une séquence prédéterminée établie par un programme câblé.
