Abstract of the Disclosure A grip, and method of manufacturing the same, for the shaft of a golf club formed of an elongated, resilient, hollow, externally tapered body (13) closed at its wider (butt) end with a cap (12) and simulating a leather wrapped outer configuration (18) along its length terminating at its narrower open end (16) in a simulated collar (17). The hollow interior (11) has a taper that is either an increasing diameter from the open end (16) to the closed end (12) or a decreasing diameter from the open end (16) to the closed end (12). The latter mode is preferred. The grip is molded in a vertical mold process which uses a unitary cast cavity mold the core pin of which is preferably withdrawn downwardly and has a shape which is the mirror image of the hollow interior of the grip. Preferably the cap (12) is molded integrally with the body (13) but may be a separate part (30).
