The invention is an intravascular device for the formation of linear lesions which has particular utility in the treatment of atrial fibrillation, and flutter. The intravascular device has an outer delivery member (11) with a distal section which has an elongated opening (28), and a support element (26) co-extending with the opening. An EP device (12) having a plurality of electrodes (32) on its distal section is slide disposed within the inner lumen of the delivery member but it is secured by its distal end within the distal extremity of the delivery member at least while in operation. In this manner an axial force in the proximal direction on the proximal extremity of the EP device, which extends out of the patient during the procedure, will cause the distal shaft section of the delivery shaft along an inner side of the curved distal section, and engage the surface of the patient's heart chamber. RF electrical energy delivered to the electrodes on the distal shaft section of the EP device will form a linear lesion which terminates the fibrillation or flutter.

L'invention porte sur un dispositif intravasculaire utilisé pour former des lésions linéaires et qui est notamment utile pour traiter la fibrillation auriculaire et le flutter. Le dispositif intravasculaire comporte un élément (11) externe d'administration pourvu d'une section distale possédant un orifice (28) allongé, et un élément (6) de support s'étendant parallèlement à l'orifice. Un afficheur (12) par électrophorèse possédant une pluralité d'électrodes sur sa section distale est disposé coulissant dans le lumen interne de l'élément d'administration, mais est fixé, par son extrémité distale, dans l'extrémité distale de l'élément de distribution, au moins le temps de l'intervention. De cette manière, une force axiale, s'exerçant dans le sens proximal de l'extrémité proximale de l'afficheur par électrophorèse et se prolongeant au-delà du corps du patient, au cours d'une intervention interne, provoquera la courbure de la section distale de la tige d'administration le long d'un côté interne de la section distale incurvée et viendra en contact avec la surface de la cavité cardiaque du patient. L'énergie électrique HF appliquée sur les électrodes de la section distale de la tige de l'afficheur par électrophorèse formera une lésion linéaire qui mettra fin à la fibrillation auriculaire ou au flutter.
