A gypsum board comprises a set gypsum layer having a first face and a second face. A fibrous mat is affixed to at least one of the faces. The mat comprises a non-woven web bonded together with a resinous binder. The web comprises a blend of a major portion composed of chopped continuous glass fibers having an average fiber diameter ranging from about 8 to 17 ~m and a minor portion composed of fine staple fibers having an average fiber diameter of less than about 5.5 ~m, the minor portion comprising about 1-30 percent of the dry weight of the web. The board is exceedingly durable. It has a smooth surface that is readily finished in an aesthetically pleasing way, using paint or other wall covering systems.
L'invention concerne une plaque de plâtre, qui comprend une couche de plâtre durcie présentant une première face et une seconde face. Un mat de fibres est fixé sur au moins une des faces. Le mat comprend une bande continue non tissée, les deux éléments étant collés ensemble par un liant résineux. La bande continue comprend une partie principale composée de fibres de verre continues coupées en morceaux présentant un diamètre moyen de la fibre compris entre 8 et 17 µm; et une partie secondaire composée de fibres discontinues fines présentant un diamètre moyen de la fibre inférieur à 5,5 µm, ladite partie secondaire constituant environ 1 à 30 pour cent du poids anhydre de la bande continue. La plaque de l'invention est extrêmement durable. Elle présente une surface lisse qu'on peut apprêter facilement avec de la peinture ou d'autres systèmes de revêtement mural pour obtenir un aspect esthétique plaisant.
