An apparatus and method for determining whether the software (122) to be downloaded by a device is the correct software (122) for that device. The software (122) includes a header portion further including fields identifying the device type (112), software type (116), and device class (120) to which the software pertains. The downloading device checks both the device (112, 120) and software type (116) before processing with the download process. If the device type (112) and software type (116) are correct, the device then checks the hardware class (120) of the software. If this last comparison process identifies a match, then the software is downloaded (120) to the device. Following the download process an error detection (124) (and optionally error correction) is performed on the software using a checksum in the header.
L'invention se rapporte à un appareil et à une méthode permettant de déterminer si le logiciel (122) qu'un dispositif doit télécharger est le logiciel (122) adéquat pour ce type de dispositif. Ledit logiciel (122) comprend une partie en-tête, laquelle comprend des champs permettant d'identifier le type de dispositif (112), le type de logiciel (116), et la catégorie de dispositif à laquelle appartient le logiciel. Le dispositif de téléchargement vérifie à la fois le type de dispositif et le type (112, 120) de logiciel (116) avant de procéder au téléchargement. Si le type de dispositif (112) et le type de logiciel (116) sont compatibles, le dispositif peut alors comparer la catégorie de matériel avec la catégorie de matériel (120) du logiciel. Si cette ultime comparaison permet d'établir une correspondance, le logiciel est alors téléchargé (120) par le dispositif. Une fois le téléchargement terminé, on procède à une détection d'erreur (124) (et éventuellement une correction d'erreur) sur le logiciel au moyen d'une somme de contrôle dans l'en-tête.
