A layered structure (24) produced by metallizing a substrate (18) including: (a) providing a transfer film including film layer and metal layer (16) bonded together by cured breakaway layer (14); (b) providing a substrate (18); (c) applying electron beam curable transfer adhesive (20) to a portion of the substrate (18); (d) securing the transfer film to the substrate, where the transfer adhesive (20) is between the metal layer (16) and substrate (18), forming an intermediate product; (e) passing the intermediate product through an electron beam curing apparatus to cure the transfer adhesive (20); and (f) removing the transfer film. In the metallized product (24), the cured breakaway layer (14) preferably has a cured elongation at break, in tension, of less than about 20%. Precise metallized edges are produced, e.g., edge variation of about ~ 0.10 in., or better. The process can be utilized with total or selective metal transfer.
L'invention concerne une structure de couches que l'on produit par métallisation d'un substrat de la manière suivante : (a) on forme un film de transfert comprenant une couche de film et une couche métallique liées entre elles par une couche de rupture durcie ; (b) on forme un substrat ; (c) on applique sur une partie du substrat un adhésif de transfert durcissable par faisceau électronique ; (d) on fixe le film de transfert au substrat, l'adhésif de transfert se trouvant entre la couche métallique et le substrat, de manière que l'on obtient un produit intermédiaire ; (e) on fait passer le produit intermédiaire à travers un appareil de durcissement par faisceau électronique afin de faire durcir l'adhésif de transfert ; et (f) on enlève le film de transfert. Dans le produit métallisé, le revêtement de rupture durci n'est lié qu'au métal. De préférence, la couche de rupture durcie possède un allongement à la rupture à l'état durci, en tension, inférieur à 20 % environ. L'invention permet d'obtenir des bords métallisés précis, avec par exemple, une variation inférieure ou égale à ± 0,010 pouces environ. Le procédé de l'invention peut être utilisé pour un transfert de métal total ou sélectif.
