A belt for use on an extended nip press for dewatering a fibrous web on a papermachine is shown. The belt includes a base fabric having the form of an endless loop. Its inner surface is coated and partially impregnated with polyurethane to render it impervious to liquids, in particular lubricating oil. The coated, inner surface of the belt slides over the arcuate pressure shoe component of the extended nip press during operation. The outer surface of the belt has flat monofilament yarns defining channels into which water pressed from the fibrous web can pass for subsequent removal.
