Surface Hardening For Seal Rings ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION Rotary fluid machines are generally comprised of a housing and a rotor assembly. Fluid seals are commonly used to restrict the flow of fluid out of the machine housing to fit the point where the rotor assembly passes through the housing. The fluid seals often contain relatively rotating annular seal rings which cooperate to form a fluid seal. To provide for long life and reliable operation, the sealing surface of the seal rings must be relatively hard. This invention is a means of providing an annular seal ring with a hard sealing surface without the use a coating or use of a brittle seal ring material. - 1 -
