Case 2715 MICROPROCESSOR WATCHDOG SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A watchdog system for a microprocessor uses the primary AC power source to initiate restart signals for the microprocessor. The microprocessor has an internal checking system which checks one or more memory locations for specific numbers or codes which are present in normal operation. Other additional checks may be made. If the check is satisfactory, the microprocessor provides a reset signal at regular intervals. A counter is coupled to the primary AC power source and it counts the pulses it receives until a predetermined count is reached. The counter then provides a restart signal. The counter is reset by the reset signal from the microprocessor when the check is satisfactory, and the time interval between reset signals is shorter than the time required for the counter to count to the predetermined count. Thus, when the microprocessor check is satisfactory the counter is repeatedly reset and it does not reach the predetermined count. If the counter does reach the predetermined count, it provides a restart signal which initiates the restart procedure of the micro- processor which places any required numbers, codes or other data in required memory locations.
