This invention relates to peptide sequences which react with human antibodies whose titre in sera of individuals infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) correlates with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) progression. Hence, these peptides are useful in preparing test kits for the prognostic evaluation of the disease progression, as well as for monitoring the effect of the antiviral therapy on HIV-1 infectivity and modulate immune network. These peptides are also useful in vaccines to prevent the development of AIDS. Monoclonal antibodies against the peptides from this invention may also be used as a therapeutic agent to prevent AIDS progression.
Cette invention porte sur des séquences de peptides qui réagissent avec des anticorps humains dont le titre sérique chez les personnes infectées par le virus de l'immunodéficience humaine de type I (HIV-1) est corrélé à la progression du syndrome d'immunodéficience acquise (SIDA). Aussi, les peptides sont-ils utiles pour la préparation de trousses pour l'évaluation pronostique de l'évolution de la maladie, ainsi que pour surveiller les effets du traitement antiviral sur l'infectivité du VIH-1 et de moduler le réseau immunitaire. Ces peptides sont également utiles dans des vaccins afin de prévenir le développement du SIDA. Des anticorps monoclonaux contre les peptides de la présente invention peuvent également être utilisés comme agent thérapeutique pour prévenir la progression du SIDA.
