The present invention is directed to pituitary differentiation factor (PDF), a pituitary factor that is capable of differentiating cells including breast cancer and prostatic cancer cells. Isolated nucleic acids encoding PDF and related vectors and host cells are also provided. Restoration of differentiating ability to malignantly transformed cells provides a modality of cancer therapy. The isolated and purified PDF of the invention is accordingly useful in the treatment of breast and prostatic cancer.

L'invention porte sur le facteur de différenciation hypophysaire (PDF) capable de différencier des cellules dont les cellules cancéreuses du sein ou de la prostate. L'invention porte également sur des acides nucléiques isolés codant pour le PDF et les vecteurs et cellules hôtes associés. La restauration de la capacité de différenciation de cellules devenues malignes est l'une des modalités de la thérapie du cancer. Le PDF isolé et purifié objet de l'invention s'avère pour ces raisons utile dans la thérapie du cancer du sein et de la prostate.
