A toggle-action dispensing closure (20) for a container is provided for manipulation between a closed, non-dispensing orientation and an open, dispensing orientation. The closure (20) includes an actuator (60) pivotally mounted along a tilting axis (T) on a body (24) secured to the container. The actuator (60) is tiltable by applying force to the actuator (60) on one side of the tilting axis (T) so as to move the actuator (60) from a non-dispensing position to a dispensing position. The actuator (60) includes a striker rib (140) extending downwardly at a position between an edge of the actuator (60) and the tilting axis (T). The body (24) includes a deck (28) defining a dispensing aperture (43) and supporting a post (110). The post (110) extends vertically to underlie the actuator (60), preventing tilting of the actuator (60) unless a sufficient opening force is exerted on the actuator (60) to cause the striker rib (140) to shear, or permanently deform, the post (110).
