A self-compensating hydrostatic (pressurized fluid film) linear bearing that maintains a fluid gap between a carriage and a rail when relative forces are applied. The geometric shape of the rail and mating carriage enable the bearing to have very high stiffness and load capacity without exessive detrimental carriage deformation. The carriages contain bearing grooves and lands which control and use fluid pressure to provide a very high degree of restoring force in response to changes in the fluid gap. The fluid emanating from the bearing gap is prevented from immediately leaking from the bearing carriage, and is instead routed back to the source from which it is pumped, thereby sealing the bearing carriage and simplifying the handling of the lubricating fluid. The hydrostatic bearing is particularly designed to be compact and to be bolt-for-bolt compatible with conventional linear bearings.

L'invention concerne un palier linéaire hydrostatique (à film de fluide pressurisé) à auto-compensation, maintenant une lame de fluide entre un chariot et un rail lors de l'application de forces relatives. Le profil géométrique du rail et du chariot coopérant avec celui-ci permet au palier d'avoir une rigidité et une capacité de charge très élevées, sans qu'il en résulte une déformation excessive et préjudiciable du chariot. Les chariots présentent des rainures d'appui et des portées contrôlant et utilisant la pression de fluide en vue de procurer un très haut degré de force de rappel, en réponse aux changements intervenant dans la lame de fluide. Le fluide provenant de l'intervalle de palier est totalement empêché de fuir à partir du chariot de palier et est amené, au contraire, à revenir vers la source à partir de laquelle il est pompé, ce qui permet de maintenir l'étanchéité du chariot et de simplifier la circulation du fluide lubrifiant. Le palier hydrostatique est particulièrement conçu pour être compact et pour être compatible, par assemblage au boulon près, avec des paliers linéaires conventionnels.
