N-substituted fatty acid amides of specific structure sufficiently inhibit LRAT or ARAT catalyzed esterification of retinol into inactive retinyl esters, thus having the same effect on keratinocytes as retinoic acid. Effects of retinol or retinyl esters in combination with these N-substituted fatty acid amides are analogous to treatment with retinoic acid.

Des amides d'acide gras substitués en N inhibent suffisamment l'estérification du rétinol catalysée par une acyl-CoA rétinol transférase (ARAT) ou une lécithine rétinol acyle transférase (LRAT) dans des esters de rétinyle inactifs. Ces composés exercent le même effet sur les kératinocytes que l'acide rétinoïque. Ainsi, les effets du rétinol ou des esters de rétinyle en association avec les amides d'acide gras substitués en N sont semblables au traitement par l'acide rétinoïque.
