A method for generating at least two mutually skewed antenna beams involves generating the information signal(s) to be transmitted, encoding the signals with mutually orthogonal (separable) codes, and applying the resulting coded signals to an array antenna for transmission. The combined signals are separable at a receiver by decoding with corresponding codes. In one specific embodiment, plural versions of the same signal are generated, each of which is encoded with one of the mutually orthogonal codes. The encoded signals are combined for application to the antenna. In another embodiment, separate beam weights are generated, one set for each beam, and the beam weights are separately encoded. The encoded beam weights are applied to control the beamformer.
