A method of diagnosis of disease or predisposition to disease, in particular Syndrome X or a component thereof such as hypertension, comprising genotyping an inducible nitric oxide synthase gene. The presence of a four base insertion polymorphism in the promoter region of said gene denotes an individual with increased risk of disease, in particular hypertension and/or the group of conditions known as Syndrome X.

Procédé de diagnostic d'une maladie ou d'une prédisposition à une maladie, en particulier syndrome X ou un composant de celui-ci, tel que hypertension, consistant à génotyper un gène de synthase d'oxyde nitrique inducteur. La présence d'un polymorphisme d'insertion à quatre bases dans la région du promoteur dudit gène révèle un sujet à risque accru de maladie, en particulier d'hypertension et/ou le groupe de conditions connues sous le nom de syndrome X.
