Formulations are provided for the treatment of patients suffering from disorders that have in common the appearance of muscular hypotonia as a symptom. These disorders include Alzheimer's type diseases, atrophy of the brain, atrophy of the cerebellum, Fragile X syndrome, mental retardation of unknown causes, multiple anomalies in the chromosomes, deletions in one or more chromosome, and fragility in a chromosome other than the X chromosome. The formulations of the invention contain therapeutically effective amounts of gamma amino butyric acid (GABA), an anti-oxidant (such as ascorbic acid and/or vitamin E), folic acid, nicotinamide, and a lithium salt, all in a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. Methods for the treatment of these disorders by the administration of such formulations are also provided.
Formulations pour le traitement de patients souffrant d'affections qui ont en commun l'apparition du symptôme d'hypotonie musculaire. Parmi ces affections, on peut citer les suivantes : maladies de type Alzheimer, atrophie du cerveau, atrophie du cervelet, syndrome de l'X fragile, retard mental d'origine inconnue, anomalies chromosomiques multiples, délétions dans un ou plusieurs chromosome, enfin fragilité au niveau d'un chromosome autre que le chromosome X. Les formulations de l'invention renferment des quantités thérapeutiques d'acide gamma-aminobutyrique (GABA), un antioxydant (comme l'acide ascorbique et (ou) la vitamine E), d'acide folique, de nicotinamide et d'un sel de lithium, tous dans un excipient acceptable en pharmacie. On présente des méthodes pour le traitement de ces affections par administration desdites formulations.
